Ballastone Inn
Mrs. Anderson was the wife of one of the most famous Civil War generals
from Savannah and she resided in what is today the Ballastone Inn.
The Ballastone Inn sits adjacent to the formal gardens on the east side of the Juliette
Gordon Low birthplace. It is a beautiful mansion that now houses an inn in
the Historic District.
One late afternoon, the Innkeeper and the master chef were going over the next day's
breakfast menu. The innkeeper was sitting in the rear of the entrance foyer and
the chef was standing behind his shoulder looking at the menu. They both
heard the front door open and looked up to see a lady enter the front foyer.
The innkeeper said she was an older lady wearing an old fashioned dress with a bustle.
Both said she looked like a perfectly normal older lady except that instead of walking,
she seemed to glide and that's when they noticed she didn't have any feet.
She entered and turned into the front parlor to their left. The innkeeper
went forward to the door of the parlor while the chef went through the breakfast
room, meeting in the parlor, and they found no one there. They searched the
entire first floor and again found no one. They mentioned this to the owner who located
a picture of Mrs. Anderson. Upon seeing the picture the chef almost fainted
and both realized they had indeed seen Mrs. Anderson come home.
